Unsealing of parking lots (partial)

... as a combined transformation measure in the areas biodiversity and commuter mobility

Results of the 1st transfer laboratory

The first transformation team at OVGU has developed a concept for the first pilot parking lot areas for unsealing. This concept was handed over to the campus design working group (AG Campusgestaltung) of the K4 department.

More information on the covered measures

  • Biodiversity: Unsealing of land: The aim of the measure is to unseal the parking areas and convert them into green spaces. Sealing is to be reduced to paths required for infrastructure purposes (for cars, delivery traffic, service providers or emergency services) by lowering kerbs and unsealing. This measure is to be implemented from now until 2028 and will be measured based on the increase in the number of green spaces.
  • Commuter mobility: Reduction of car parking spaces (successive): Over the next few years, the car parking spaces on the campus are to be gradually reduced. Alternatively, the parking spaces can be used for bicycle parking, green spaces or as places to relax. It is also proposed to create a parking garage or "Park+ Ride" zones. The aim of the measure is to reduce car journeys to the campus and create more space for pedestrians and cyclists.
  • You can find more information about this measure in the climate plan of the OVGU Magdeburg (german only) under the name "Biodiversität 1" and "Pendelmobilität 2"
